"First Approach 01 - Humpback Whale" is the first in a series. When filming wild animals underwater, one has a limited period to interact, the duration of which is determined by the animal. Some animals will gift you twenty minutes of their attention, some just a few minutes, some will swim by once, and others will gift you none. For many of these animals, this will be the first time they have seen a human underwater, and their curious natures are revealed as they come in for a closer inspection. Often these brief encounters, or what we refer to as the "First Approach,” yield the only photographic record of the animal's existence, and as such, are very precious from both an experiential and documentary perspective. Roger Horrocks captures this amazing encounter.
